Commemoration Reconsidered: Ethics, Justice, and America’s 250th Anniversary | April 27-28, 2023

What should we commemorate, how, and why? The U.S. 250th anniversary presents an opportunity to consider lessons from the past and present as we envision a more inclusive approach to commemoration. As part of AASLH’s first virtual summit, “Commemoration Reconsidered: Ethics, Justice, and America’s 250th Anniversary,” participants attended a series of sessions featuring experts from varied backgrounds and perspectives as they both answer and raise vital questions of memory, narrative, and interpretation.

“Commemoration Reconsidered” was made possible through support from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. Panel sessions were sponsored by the Classical American Homes Preservation Trust.
